A Look at Acid Reflux Treatment |
|
Heartburn is a by-product of digestion, specifically affecting the esophagus and the stomach. The esophagus is a tube that delivers food into the stomach, and it has a valve that opens and closes to allow food in and to keep it down during digestion. This valve can become lax or get overwhelmed by too much food or too much acid. This condition causes stomach acids to reflux or spill back up through the valve onto the esophagus, fanning flames of discomfort within the center of the chest. Is there an acid reflux cure? Yes and no. Yes, because it can be treated effectively and relieved, but also no, because researchers have yet to find a root cause and it can always come back. Acid... |

Acid Reflux Chest Pain |
|
The symptoms of acid reflux syndrome are primarily heartburn and nausea. Some regurgitation of acid and/or foods may be present. While it is not a common symptom, some people do experience acid reflux chest pain. However, any chest pain should be thoroughly evaluated by a physician to rule out heart disease. According to the Mayo clinic, chest pain that is not related to heart disease is most commonly caused by acid reflux syndrome or GERD, which is gastro-esophageal reflux. The terms are used interchangeably. In order to determine if a person is experiencing acid reflux chest pain, doctors may use tests to measure acid levels in the esophagus, this is the tube that carries food from... |

Silent Acid Reflux |
|
Sometimes people do not realize that acid reflux is a problem for them. This may be referred to as silent acid reflux. A prescribed silent acid reflux remedy may be no different from those prescribed for common acid reflux, but diagnosis is sometimes more difficult. Many people believe that heartburn and acid reflux are synonymous, but in silent acid reflux, heartburn is frequently not a symptom. It may seem strange that a silent acid reflux remedy may be an antacid or other medication to prevent or reduce stomach acid, because most people think of these as heartburn remedies. But, silent acid reflux is caused by the same stomach acid that causes heartburn. There are two different... |

Report: Poor sleep patterns correlate with acid reflux
Author:
Stella
This Healthday article comments on a recent study that attempted to correlate gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or acid reflux, for short, with poor sleep patterns. Researchers from Jefferson University Medical College, Philadelphia, observed the sleep patterns of 16 people with a history of bad sleep but with no known medical problems that might cause their sleep difficulties. They had not previously been diagnosed or treated for GERD. Eight of the study volunteers experienced daytime symptoms of reflux while the other eight did not appear to have any symptoms of acid reflux. After an initial overnight stay, the volunteers with the reflux symptoms took 20 milligrams of the acid-reducing drug omeprazone twice daily for the next two to three weeks. They then returned for a second overnight stay at the Jefferson Sleep Disorders Center. Six volunteers with reflux symptoms who experienced the worst sleep problems benefited the most from the drug treatment for reflux. The other two volunteers with reflux symptoms also benefited from the treatment, but to a lesser extent, the study said. The article's conclusion is that there may be a correlation between having a poor night's sleep and acid reflux episodes during the night in patients who were not previously diagnosed with GERD. Non pharma treatment of acid reflux includes avoiding over eating, losing weight and avoiding late night eating. Foods that Cause Acid Reflux |
|
If you suffer from acid reflux you are probably aware that there are certain types of food that can trigger this action. But at the same time, there may be some foods that do this that you are not even aware of. Here are a few foods that you should stay away from if you are having problems with acid reflux. 1. Coffee and alcohol can cause acid reflux throughout the day. In addition, soda that contains caffeine can also cause this to happen. 2. Foods that are high in fat can cause acid reflux. They can delay the emptying of the stomach which will in turn increase your chance of acid reflux. 3. Smoking is one of the biggest causes of acid reflux that people are not fully aware of. 4. Eating big meals can increase your chances of acid reflux. Try to eat smaller meals throughout the day so that your stomach does not have as much to empty. 5. Avoid eating spicy foods 6. Avoid acidic foods such as oranges, tomatoes, and lemons In addition, you will want to avoid eating right before you go to bed. Also, try not to lay down directly following a meal. Both of these will help to reduce acid reflux. For information on where to buy Nexium or other medications to treat heartburn and acid reflux visit PharmacyScout.com . ... |
