All About Acid Reflux
Acid reflux is scientifically known as GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). It is a disease characterized by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus resulting to chronic symptoms or mucosal damage. Acid reflux is often caused by temporary or permanent alterations in the lining that separates the esophagus and the stomach. Ineffectiveness of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) or a temporary LES relaxation connected with a hiatal hernia are just some of the common causes of acid reflux. The process can also lead to a backflow of gastric juices to the pharynx or mouth. Among adults, the most common symptom of acid reflux is heartburn which is caused...

Causes and Risk Factors of Acid Reflux
Gastro-esophageal reflux, commonly referred to as acid reflux, is a very common disorder, affecting more than 7 percent of the American population. Acid reflux can occur in people of all ages, although it is more common in newborns and young children. Unlike children, which are rarely confronted with long-term symptoms of acid reflux, adults usually suffer from recurrent forms of the disorder. The process of diagnosing acid reflux is simple and it generally involves clinical examinations. Patients’ reports of symptoms and physical indicators of acid reflux are usually sufficient in diagnosing the disease. However, in special cases doctors may perform additional tests in order to confirm...

What Causes Acid Reflux?
Though the root causes are often unclear, perhaps the most prevalent acid reflux cause is a poor diet. Acid reflux occurs during digestion, when the stomach churns up acid or refluxes it into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest or throat. So if you eat too many highly acidic foods like tomato sauces and/or fatty, fried foods, the stomach has to process an overabundance of acid. Too much acid can push back through a valve between the stomach and the esophagus called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). Acid reflux culprits include but are not limited to tomato based sauces, fried and fatty foods, chocolate, alcohol, citrus fruits, peppers, and caffeinated beverages. ...

Acid Reflux Cures- 7 Simple Remedies Revealed

Author:
John Briggs

I’m in living hell!…my acid reflux is out of control… and …I can’t digest my meds.I tried an over-the-counter antacid…but …It makes me itch! Please! someone… can you tell me--“what can I do?’

Here’s 7 simple tips to combat acid reflux you can use…

1) Reduce the stress in your life-- because stress causes an increase in the amount of stomach acid… take up a hobby or start devoting more time to the things you really enjoy.

2) Drink plenty of water-- at least 8 glasses a day…but …Do Not eat or drink anything before daytime naps or bedtime…because…normally it takes the stomach around 3 hours to digest it’s contents.

3) Maintain a healthy diet-- avoid foods or drinks rich in :

  • Citrus fruits or juices…oranges and lemons are very acidic.
  • Tomatoes or tomato based products.
  • Certain ethnic dishes, such as …Mexican or Italian foods.
4) Using Proper sleeping techniques-- avoid using more than one pillow…because, that’ll cause folding of the abdominal area-- and increase acid reflux.

5) Control your body weight and quit smoking-- if you suffer from obesity…start a moderate exercise program (consult your physician first). If you’re a smoker-- then, now is a perfect time to think about quitting… because, smoking prolongs the digestive cycle.

6) Avoid tight fitting or restrictive clothing and belts--because, they only compress the abdominal area… leading to even more severe acid reflux episodes and discomfort.

7) Don’t be mislead by misconceptions such as-- using wedge pillows, using hospital beds to just elevate your head…these mistreatments only cause more folding at the abdominal level. Thereby increasing reflux in the esophagus and throat.

By using these simple and easy solutions … you can gain control of acid reflux and it’s discomforts… gradually, over time…It’ll become-- a thing of the past.

Number 1 Acid Reflux Diet Tip - Eat Frequent, Eat Small
Diet does not really directly cause acid reflux. But acid reflux can be aggravated by the food and drinks we take. Hence to look for a cure for acid reflux, we also need to create a good acid reflux diet plan that helps to ease the condition. And the number 1 tip we are going to learn today is to eat frequent, small meals instead of less frequent big meals. There are 2 ways to carry out this step. You can either eat smaller and more frequent meals in a day, or avoid eating a big and heavy meal in a day. A lot of people, especially those who are always busy in work, tend to skip meals and eat 1 big meal at a time. This can perhaps be a tough habit to stop. Just try to remember this key point that may help you to keep your diet in check: eat when you are hungry and stop eating when you feel comfortable. By constantly remind ourselves with this point, we will start to eat smaller sized meals over time. And by eating smaller meals we get hungry sooner and ends up eating more often, which is what we want to achieve. Keep your stomach full is not ideal if you have acid reflux condition. A stomach that is full is more like to have an acid reflux attack that cause stomach acid to flow into the esophagus, resulting in heartburn. Hence eating more often and smaller amount at a time is particularly helpful for people with acid reflux. Smaller, low fat meals do not stay in the stomach for a long time and move more quickly into the intestines as compared to large meals. The shorter the time for food to be in the stomach reduce the chance for acid reflux to occur. Also large meals are not welcomed because it put more pressure on the stomach, especially the esophageal sphincter and cause it to open easily. Once the sphincter opens, it will give the stomach acid a chance to...
